A green rooftop is a special multi-layer system consisting of a substrate for plant-growing, an irrigation system and vegetation. Green rooftops are also referred to as living roofs, vegetated roofs, eco-roofs and roof gardens.
LAVA pumice stone can be used as a substrate for growing plants on vegetated roofs – green rooftops. As a completely natural product, it combines unique qualities that make it an ideal solution for landscape architecture:
- it contributes to irrigation water saving thanks to its high moisture retention capacity;
- it has consistent quality and grain size distribution due to the homogeneity of the deposit;
- it contributes to reduced structural loading of buildings because of its low specific gravity;
- it exhibits increased resistance to frost cycles compared to other porous materials thanks to its high mechanical strength;
- it promotes plant growth and is sound absorbing, with remarkable thermal insulating properties;
- it demonstrates excellent results in thorough investigations carried out on Greek green roofs planted with native plants of the Greek flora.
